This hymn-like song was written for a
building program by the same name. The point is that we are
building our church upon God's promised grace to be with us tomorrow.
Our eyes are focused on the future and the plans that God has for us.
The verses flow out of the purpose
statement of St. John's
Lutheran Church in Napa, CA. Although developed separately, the five
areas also correspond to the five purpose in Rick Warren's "The
Purpose-Driven Church." The ultimate purpose of growing our
church, its facilities and ministry is to further the God's work in
carrying out His purposes among.
Although developed for a specific building
program, this song speaks to the mission of the church and its ministry
and is appropriate whenever we are casting our eyes to the vision God
has placed before us.
Chorus
Building on the Promise of
Tomorrow
Standing on your grace for us today
For your love has bid us come and follow
Precious Lord: light the path, lead the way
Fellowship
We are your people, your family, your own
By water and Spirit begun
Lead us to love with the love that you have shown
Bind us together as one
Mission
Open our eyes to the harvest, ripe and full
Darkness in need of your light
Send us to shine out to every darkened soul
Send us to waken the night!
Discipleship
Feed us and lead us that by your grace we grow
Give us a heart that is true
Deepen our faith, and your
will teach us to know
Build up our lives in you
Service
All that we have, all we are,
and hope to be
All this we offer to you
Make us your body, your
hands, your voice, your feet
Willing your service to do
Worship
O Lord, we long to be where
your praise is heard
Come to us now in this place
Here ‘round your table, and
spoken in your word
Blessing shines forth from
your face
