Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

He's Risen

Background

This upbeat Easter song celebrates the resurrection of Christ, and what it means in our lives.  A parallel is drawn between the closed up tomb on the Saturday before Easter (the second day), and the tomb of our guilt and sin.  Christ's resurrection from the dead is also our resurrection from guilt to forgiveness.  We are alive in Christ who has triumphed over sin, death, and the devil.

Bible Verses:

Romans 6:1-10, 1 Corinthians 15:17-22

Themes:

Resurrection, Eternal Life, Forgiveness, Repentance

Lyrics

Verse 1
Darkness on the second day
Darkness deep inside the tomb
This is the night of sorrow
The night of death and gloom
How can love and hope and life lie buried in the grave?
O Lord don’t leave you people
O Lord please come and save
But the Lord has heard our cry
And as the light draws nigh
The promise of new life is coming true
The dawn burst forth as day
The stone is rolled away
No more night, here comes the light

Chorus
He’s risen
He’s risen
He’s risen today
The tomb is burst wide open
The stone is rolled away
He’s risen
He’s risen
He’s risen for me
I rise and stand forgiven alive eternally
I am alive

Verse 2
Darkness in this soul of mine
Darkness deep inside of me
I stand before a mirror, my sin staring back at me
Locked inside a prison tomb of guilt and misery
The stone that holds me in is weighing down on me
But the Lord has heard my cry
And as the light draws nigh
New life He sends into my aching soul
He sets my spirit free
The Lord who rose for me
New life He’s given
My sins forgiven
