This song was written based on the theme and theme verse of the 2007
Convention of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, at which I was a
delegate. I wrote the song just weeks before the convention and
didn't bother trying to bring it to the attention of those organizing
it, so it was not used at all during the week.
I this passage from 1 John, the apostle connects the love of God to our
love for each other. The horizontal love in our lives is to be
modeled after and empowered by the vertical love. This is such an
important message, not only for a church in convention or a church body,
but for each of us as seek to follow Christ in our lives.
The chorus combines the three components of LCMS President Jerry
Kieschnick's vision for the synod: One Mission, One Message, One People.
The center of this one vision is Jesus Christ and his love.
Verse
This, the love of God
The love he showed to us
He sent us His one and only Son
Sent Him into the world for us
This, the love of God
The love He showed to us
Not that we first loved God
But that He first loved us
And sent His Son to be the sacrifice for all our sins
That He might show His love among us
That we might live our lives in Him
Dear friend, since God so loved us
Let His love shine through
That we might love one another
For His love is here for you.
Chorus
One Message
One Mission
One People
One Vision
Jesus
His love is here for you
Jesus
His love is here for you
