Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

Hope Is Our Anchor

Background

Where do we turn in hard times?  What serves as a foundation that will hold steady?  Hope in Christ serves as such a foundation.  In Hebrews 6:19, the writer calls hope an anchor for the soul.  It is solid and sure, because it is based on what Christ has done for us as our High Priest.

This song is also written to reflect the theme for the 2014-2015 school year for St. John's Lutheran School in Napa, CA. paths.

Lyrics

Chorus
Hope is our anchor
Hope is our life
Hope is our Savior Jesus Christ
Hope is a cross
Hope is an empty grave
Hope that holds us in the storm, through the wind and the waves
Hope that ever anchors our soul in the God who saves

 Verse
Life is like a ship on a restless ocean
Tide and tempest toss us around
Trouble and change
Our lives rearrange
Adrift or running aground
But come what may we will not be shaken
Jesus is our hope in the storm
His promise is sure
Firm and secure
Our anchor forevermore

Bridge
We will sing for joy though the storm is raging
We will hope and not be afraid
For we trust in Your word alone
And ev’ry promise You’ve made
