Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

I Want to Let My Light Shine

Background

Jesus calls us to let our light shine before the world.  We are called to give witness to the life of Christ in us and for us by the way we live our lives.   This involves not only speaking our faith, but living our faith in the way we live our our vocations, in the way we make decisions, and in the way we treat the people around us.  Our lives are reflection of His life.  By His grace, we shine His light into all the darkness around us.

This song was written for St. John's Lutheran School by Bob Hauch for its 2006-2007 theme, "Shine."  For the recording, the song is sung by St. John's 4th grade teacher, Sarah Kramer.

Lyrics

Chorus
I want to let my light shine
So that ev'ryone can see
That the things I do
I do because of what Jesus did for me

Verse 1
When I can't find an answer to a problem that I face
When I don't know which way to go when I've got a choice to make
I just put my trust in Jesus, who has set all people free.
By His perfect life, His sacrifice
He gives me all I need.

Verse 2
Each and ev'ry morning is another chance for me
To become the one that God has had in mind for me to be
A reflection of His glory, filled with wisdom from above
My life's a Gospel story now
I want to share His love
