Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

Light of Christ

This song is a pray that Christ light the way into the unknown future.  We are called to follow Christ even when tomorrow is an unclear mystery.  Knowing that Christ is with us is all that we need.  He truly lights our path and illumines the way.

I wrote this song while contemplating the call to St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa.  It describes the struggle I faced and its resolution in Christ. I then sang this song as part of my final service at Our Savior in Manchester, Iowa.

This song is not intended as a congregational song, but rather as a musical offering.

Verse 1
Staring at the road before me
You’re calling me to walk upon
I don’t know just where it leads
It’s all so far beyond
But now you take me by the hand
And set my feet to go
That you’re near is all I need to know
I know

Light of Christ
Light my way
Shine on me
Light of Christ
Shine on me

Verse 2
Tomorrow is a mystery
A shadow spread in front of me
All I see is light upon the path down at my feet
Who knows what lies out there
Beyond the edge of this today?
Yet I believe your light will shine each day
The way.

Light of Christ illumine me
In my heart
In my soul
And in the way that I should go now with you
Oh shine your light upon my tomorrow
Watch the shadows fly
In the dawn that you shine
To this branch on the vine
In my heart
In my mind
In the light that I find In you
