Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

Ready Set Grow

Jesus calls us to grow.  Throughout His ministry, he used agricultural images and metaphors to describe the ongoing process of spiritual growth, as well as the intended goal of bearing fruit.  The Christian life is to be a continual pursuit of fruitful growth.

The chorus of this song describes growth in three dimensions.  Growing closer to Christ (UP), growing closer to other followers of Christ (IN), and growing in service and outreach to the world (OUT)The verses point out the need for patience while God performs his work of growth in us, as well as our dependance on God for all the growth we desire.

This song was written by Bob Hauch as the theme song for the St. John's Lutheran School for the 2008-2009 School Year.  The school theme that year was "Grow."

For the recording, the song is sung by Amelia Arnold, who graduated from St. John's Lutheran School in 2011.

Growth, Witness, Praise, Sanctification, Fellowship

Ready, set, grow
To be more and more like Jesus
Ready, set, grow
A little closer to my friends
Ready, set, grow
To serve the world all around me
It's not a mystery
God has a plan for me
I will be all I can be
'Cause I'm ready to grow

Verse 1
Lord, let me be patient
When You plant me like a seed
In the part of Your creation
That you see the greatest need
Let Your love rain down upon me
And warm me with Your grace
Help me grow in ev'ry way
To be Your witness in this place

Verse 2
Keep me rooted in the power
Of the Word You gave to me
Let me lift my hands and heart in praise
Like the brances of a tree
The gifts that You have blessed me with
Will be the fruit I share
Help me make a difference
And show others that I care
