In this section I offer my reviews of material pertaining to worship today, especially the realm of contemporary music. In reading any review, it's important to understand where the reviewer is coming from philosophically. That's the purpose of the My Perspective page. Here I lay out how I view contemporary music in worship, its similarities and differences from traditional hymns, and its usefulness for the church today. In the "CCLI top songs" section, I provide my reviews of the top worship songs as listed on the CCLI website. I discuss primarily the text of the song and its usefulness and appropriateness in worship, and especially for those who hold to a Lutheran confession. In the Publications section I review books, articles, and pamphlets. An area of special interest is the use of contemporary music in the Lutheran Church, and the ongoing discussions regarding contemporary worship. I will offer my comments and criticisms on writings that speak to this issue. If you have comments in response, I encourage you to head to the discussion page and get a conversation going. One of the purposes of this site is to serve as a place for open, honest, helpful, constructive dialog that will serve the church. |
