Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

Under Construction

This song is the theme song for the 2016-2017 school year for St. John's Lutheran School in Napa, CA. Our theme that year was "Under Construction," chosen because of the number of construction projects taking place on our campus, especially the earthquake repair and seismic upgrading of the sanctuary. These construction projects remind us that we are under construction ourselves. God is at work, building us up as His people, living stones in a spiritual house built to His glory.

Bible Verses

1 Peter 2:4-10, Matthew 7:24-27, Matthew 16:13-20, 1 Corinthians 3:5-17

Discipleship, Growth, Worship, Prayer

Verse 1
Hammer and nail, brick and stone
I’m living in a construction zone
Digging, sawing, pounding, drilling
All of this is part of building
But the project that the work is for,
That the Builder oversees,
Is the life that I live everyday
The construction zone is me!

God at work! I’m under construction
And He’s not finished with me yet.
God at work! I’m under construction
He builds me up to be like Him.
God at work! I’m under construction
In a house of living stones.
God at work! I’m under construction,
I’m a living construction zone.

Verse 2
Worshiping, serving, loving, praying
Listening to what God is saying,
Honoring Him in all my choosing,
These are the tools the builder is using.
As He builds us into a holy house
We are chosen living stones
For we are built upon the rock
Jesus Christ, the cornerstone.

He’s a carpenter on a cross of wood
A mason rolling away the stone
A plumber piping living water into our thirsty souls
Electrician turning on the Light
A welder joining us as one
This is the Builder, Jesus Christ,
And He’s only just begun!
