Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

What Is Good

Background

Micah 6:6-8 is a desperate cry by Micah, searching for how he is to approach God, what shall he offer to the Lord. But God has shown His people what is good: To act justly, the love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him. This song presents Micah's cry to God, first in the form of questions about how to approach God, then as a prayer that we could indeed approach God in this way, and finally a confession of conviction to live, pursuing what is good. This song is also written to reflect the theme for the 2015-2016 school year for St. John's Lutheran School in Napa, CA. paths.

Lyrics

Verse 1
How shall I come to You
And offer You the praises due Your name?
How shall I worship You, O God?
What can I bring to you that gives to You the gratitude I owe?
How can I offer You my love?

 Chorus
You have shown us, O God, what is good.
You have shown us what you require.
To act justly, to love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
To act justly, to love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
For this is what it means to follow after You.
To act justly, to love mercy, and walk humbly with You, O God

Verse 2
And so I pray to you, my life renew, my heart to follow You.
A living sacrifice of praise.
O, make me more like You in everything I say and do today
That I may glorify Your name.

Bridge
I will act with justice
For each one of us is worthy divine dignity.
And I’ll love mercy, and show kindness to all.
I will seek to know You, God,
To follow You in true humility.
This is my offering to You.

And walk humbly with You, O God
